Trustee Spotlight: Tommy DeRamus

Our Trustees not only support the Vestavia Hills Chamber as a whole, but the events that make the City of Vestavia Hills a unique and amazing place to work, play and live. These invaluable members make an annual commitment of support allowing the Chamber to carry out our mission: To serve and promote members and, together with community partners, advance the economic, civic, and educational environment of Vestavia Hills. We are excited to spotlight Trustee Tommy DeRamus of Shades Mountain Baptist Church.

Tommy DeRamus serves as the Adults Plus Engagement Minister at Shades Mountain Baptist Church and is proud to represent the church with the Chamber.  The Adults Plus Ministry at Shades is for people age 60 and better, and part of Tommy’s role is to help Shades members find places to volunteer in the community.
 
The Shades mission statement is “Leveraging who we are and what we’ve been given for the sake of the Gospel, wherever we are and wherever God takes us.”  We want to help all our members find opportunities to serve in our city and share the Gospel wherever we go.
 
Tommy is thankful for the opportunities the Chamber provides for churches to be involved in Vestavia Hills.  Shades has volunteer teams that serve in our schools and we have teams that support our First Responders on a regular basis.  The church also participates in the Dogwood Prayer Breakfast and I Love America Night.
 
Shades has a wide range of ministries for the entire family, including bible study and worship times specifically designed for children.  We also have an excellent ministry for children and young adults with special needs, called Hand in Hand.  Participants in Hand in Hand have one-to-one buddies specifically trained to provide care and companionship while they enjoy the classes and worship times.  The Shades Women’s Ministry leads quarterly worship and fellowship events called Breathe that are open to all ladies in the community.
 
On Christmas Eve we will have Candlelight services open to the community at 1:00, 3:00 and 5:00pm.  These special services offer a memorable worship experience for the entire family to celebrate the gift of our Savior’s birth.
