Join us Friday, February 20 from 6:00-9:00 pm and Saturday, February 21 from 9:00 am-3:00 pm for a Women's Retreat on the VHMC campus. We are excited to welcome Dr. Lisa Stamps and Alexa James, founder of Blanket Fort Hope, as our guest speakers for the weekend!
Dr. Stamps is currently an educational consultant and mentor. Dr. Stamps loves this country and homegrown food almost as much as she loves Jesus. She is thankful for the patriotism of her military roots, the innocence of her raising, and the wisdom of her kinfolk. Lisa served almost thirty years as an educator and now spends her time flying planes, attending church, writing, learning guitar, helping those who grieve, loving on family, and especially squeezing grandchildren. She previously served as Superintendent of Daleville City schools and the Director of Leadership Development at the Alabama Association of School Boards.She has presented at state, national, and international conferences and published numerous educational articles and a dissertation. Anchors in My Sea is her first book.
Alexa James is the founder of a human trafficking advocacy group, Blanket Fort Hope, a nonprofit providing support to child human trafficking survivors. Born and raised in Alabama, Alexa has two grown boys, two daughters in love, and one awesome grandson. She attended Southeastern Bible College and UAB in the field of secondary education. Alexa is also a graduate of Highlands College with an emphasis on human trafficking, women’s ministry, and mission work, which caused her to develop a passion for social justice.She recognizes her calling to use these business skills to generate housing, awareness, education, and fundraising in a ministry capacity to help child survivors of human trafficking. Alexa founded Blanket Fort Hope in early 2015. She has devoted the last 15 years of her life to helping victims of human trafficking find safety and education, advocating at the state level, and raising awareness. She is dedicated to seeing a place where these children are safe and able to thrive. This place will be a fortress, and its name is Blanket Fort Hope.
