This 8-session course will offer an overview of the current National State and Local Emergency?s declared across the United States. Sheriff Edmund M. ?Ted? Sexton, Sr. retired, will draw on his extensive experience including Assistant Secretary at The United States Department of Homeland Security and Chief of the Homeland Security Division for The County of Los Angeles Sheriff?s Department. The history that shaped the policies and legislation that enable the State of Emergency process to exist. Beyond the current State of Emergency, the course will explore additional issues that have led to the second largest reorganization of resources in the history of the United States Government. That being the creation of The United States Department of Homeland Security and their legislative authority related to emergency management, national security operations, intelligence information, and immigration.
